To date the earliest known graves here are those of William T. and Ethelbert Shannon, sons of Robert and Hulda Shannon, who with their 9 children left Bedford County, TN for Izard County early in the year of 1851. On Dec 20, 1852, Robert T. died and was buried near the Shannon home. Ten days later, Ethelbert was killed by a falling tree limb, and was buried beside his brother. Several members of this family are buried here, all in unmarked graves.
