Hi,
In 1859, my great great grandfather and mother, John and Nancy Mary
Wilson Miller (John Wilson, Sr. ... Lawrence County, AR) moved their family
from Dade County, Ga. to Polk County, Arkansas. Several of their sons
served the Confederacy, one dying at Johnson Island as a Prisoner of War
(Ohio). Their son, Captain (Rev.) Joseph Wilson Miller was an attorney who
served in the AR Legislature and as a gubernatorial candidate. Another son,
(Rev.) John Thornton Miller also was an attorney whom I believe served in
the legislature as well. They were both ordained deacons in the M.E.
Church. A son, George R. Miller was sheriff of Polk County as well as
having been elected to other offices. It is my understanding that some of
their sons also served Arkansas as elected officials. If you are interested
in any more/other information I will be happy to forward that to you...
please let me know the format.
I am most interested in researching material that might be available
related to their service in the late 19th Century. I am also interested in
learning more about Polk County, AR.
