Group 5 R1a

The R1a lineage is believed to have originated in the Eurasian Steppes north of the Black and Caspian Seas. This lineage is believed to have or iginated in a population of the Kurgan culture, known for the domestication of the horse (approximately 3000 B.C.E.). These people were also believed to be the first speakers of the Indo-European language group. This lineage is currently found in central and western Asia, India, and in Slavic populations of Eastern Europe. <

This Chart is for the Old Simeon line but William Edward Necklen is not a Couch and this test is not supposed to work for him. I found out he was a Couch Descendant and did not have a family Group to be in, so I had him to join us just so we could see if there could be an advanage from it.

We would like to see othes from the Old Simeon Couch line to take the test.

This one is a distance of 17 from the old simeon. Their closest kin is #5375 and that is a distance of 12.
It is apparent that this line does not seem to be directly related to the other lines tested. There is some evidence that Jacob?s father may have been Casper Kentz who appears in land records for the area around Saxe-Gotha in South Carolina in the late 1700?s. It is therefore possible that a connection might be found with those testing on such surnames as Kauntz, Kaunz, Kuntz, Kunze, Couts or Counts.

The Haplogroup results that each of the groups were given in their test results? I found it extremely curious that our group (Group 9) displays a J2 Haplogroup, which is known to have East Indian, Italian, Siberian Russian, or Arabic (Syrian) strains! This may, in fact, be evidence (I?m not sure) of something I?ve long suspected about Jacob Couch of Greene Co., TN ? that he may have been a Melungeon. This could certainly explain why he?s been so hard to trace and especially that so little is know about the early wives in this line (some are unknown, and with some of the others all that?s known is their maiden names and/or when they were born and/or died)?

It is obvious from our observation of 1000's of samples that some markers change or mutate at a faster rate than others. While that actual 'faster rate' has not yet been definitively calculated, not all markers should be treated the same for evaluation purposes. Markers 385a, 385b, 439, 458, 459a, 459b, 449, and 464a-d have shown a faster mutation rate then the average, and therefore these markers are very helpful at splitting lineages into sub sets, or branches, within your family tree. Explained another way, if you match exactly on all of the markers except for one or a few of the markers we have determined mutate more quickly, then despite the mutation this mismatch only slightly decreases the probability of two people in your surname group who match 11/12 or even 23/25 of not sharing a recent common ancestor.
